Chapter 15: Can I really stop waiting and be by your side?
~*~
Athrun gazed around the busy street. His body ravaged with pants as he walked briskly down the bustling with life tiled pavement. His eyes was on a constant lookout, his sensors for her which were usually down half of his life after she left was revived as he searched earnestly for her. He could not let her go. No he could not bear to hand her over. He was desperate now. He did not need her love. He just needs her beside him. Who cares if Kira was not his son? Who cared if Kira was some jerks son? Why did the child matter? The mother is her. If it’s her, who cared if Kira is his worst nemesis' son. All it needed was for her to be the mother. It was good enough for him.
Then, it was as though something that prevented his eyes from seeing clearly was lifted and he saw her standing there. Safe and sound, in one full piece at a flower shop looking at some flowers. His heart leapt for joy. He tried to call out, but his voice was trapped in his throat as he saw her picking up a bunch of red roses and asking about it. Cagalli was, unlike other girls, direct and did not like to beat around the bush. She was fearless and did not care on how things were usually done. How they went out was due to Cagalli’s constant visits to his dad’s café and her first move on giving him her number. (A/N: suddenly mental block. Cannot type that well… DD:)
“Why is she buying red roses?” Athrun asked himself as he watched carefully Cagalli’s movement. “Was she going to confess her love for another guy? Who is that guy?” Athrun clenched his fist as he continued thinking. “Am I going to lose her?” Just the pure thought of losing her made his heart skip a beat and his blood run cold.
Was he going to lose her – Again?
He could not take it; he was going insane with his thoughts. Too afraid of what he might do, he turned around and was about to dash home and never shows his face on this earth when he saw Cagalli placing back the bouquet of red roses and thanked the florist. Courage zoomed back into him at the sight of it.
“Cagalli!” Athrun called out and saw Cagalli turn. She looked around for awhile before spotting the bluenette. Cagalli revealed an unreadable expression as she saw Athrun jog towards her direction. Cagalli started to feel butterflies in her stomach. Her fingers were twitching and her jaw was shut tight into a straight line. When Athrun finally was infront of Cagalli, Athrun too started to be attacked by his nervousness. Suddenly, all his joy was washed away when he remembered the cold lump of metal in his hand that represented the seriousness of the matter. He could no longer smile, instead the smile was replaced by a frown of confusion, worry and-
“Are you okay?” Athrun asked as he studied Cagalli as he bombarded her with questions. Cagalli looked at Athrun as he started worrying over her and stifled a laugh.
“What is so funny?” Athrun asked as he noticed a small smile forming on her face. Cagalli looked at Athrun one more time.
“You never change do you?”
“Wha-“ Athrun gasped as he looked at Cagalli and saw the old humorous gaze that she used to have when they were together.
“Pfft... I'm fine Athrun.” Cagalli smiled at Athrun’s concern as she led him to the side of the pavement to prevent the human traffic from passing by them. Athrun studied Cagalli one more time as though he did not believe Cagalli was fine.
“Really?” Athrun looked up at Cagalli with that innocent look like a young boy who could not believe that his mother would forgive him after he had wrecked his mother’s prize garden. Cagalli knew that look inside out. She knew that he still did not believe that she was fine. You never change do you? Cagalli chuckled and flashed Athrun a smile making Athrun sigh in relief. It was only then did Cagalli realize Athrun’s unsteady breathing and gave a small frown
“Athrun? What's wrong?”
“Huh? What do you mean?” Athrun asked as he looked at Cagalli puzzled at her words.
“Did you run? You are panting...” Cagalli noted as she looked at Athrun fiercely as Athrun’s cheeks begin to flush up due to the guilt that was bugging him.
“You did run didn’t you? Gawsh! Didn't the doctor say you can't do any vigorous exercise?” Cagalli yelled angrily at Athrun as she dug her bag to fish out an inhaler and pushed it into Athrun’s hands. Athrun took it gratefully as he put it into his mouth and puffed
“Haha...” Athrun laughed nervously. “I… uh… I don’t get this asthma attacks as often…” Athrun nodded quietly embarrassed at his blunder.
“What happened Athrun?” Cagalli asked as she looked intently at Athrun.
“I...” Athrun started and paused. He looked at Cagalli and could see her impatience on her face. “Shin…” Athrun whispered as he looked down on the floor. He could not bear to see Cagalli’s expression. His heart will not be able to take it if he realized that his brother, that guy was in a relationship with Cagalli. He could not take it.
“Shin? Kare wa dare ga?” Cagalli asked as she looked at Athrun. Cagalli’s response made Athrun look at Cagalli shocked.
“Y-you don't know?”Athrun asked as he looked at Cagalli unwilling to believe her words.
Can I really stop waiting? And be by your side now?
